Phool.co is a social impact enterprise that has pioneered the ‘flowercycling®’ technologies to reduce the pollution in the Rivers Ganges, by up-cycling the vast quantities of flower temple-waste in India. Every year, more than 8 Million Metric tons of pesticide-laden temple-flowers are dumped in the Ganges, choking the river & causing severe health concerns - diarrhea, hepatitis & cholera. At Phool.co, over 11 tons of temple-waste is collected daily in Uttar Pradesh and converted into charcoal-free incense and an animal-free alternative to leather called Fleather (PETA’s Best Innovation in the Vegan World 2020). In the process, Phool.co employs women who were previously manual scavengers, to sort the flower waste and hand roll the popular incense sticks. This transformational disease-free employment enables these women to shun lives in which they jump neck deep into clogged sewers & scrape human faces from dry toilets. Awarded the Fast company world changing ideas and recognized by Forbes, Fortune and Stanford Social Review, Phool.co is driving systems change in a community that has been exploited for centuries by creating opportunities & revolutionizing the way India handles the ‘Million-ton temple waste disposal’.
Peoples WASH Solution LLP is proposing to provide technical solution of using vapor permeable membrane linings in septic tank and leach pits for stopping 100% the contamination to surrounding soil or water bodies ( Grond Water / Surface Water) under SBM 2.0 technology challenge. This technology will ensure that lesser water is used in latrines and fecal sludge is stored safely while allowing some water from sludge to dry on site using the evaporation due to temperature gradient of 2 degrees or more. This technology will also help people living in low income settlements or slums with no space available on ground for construction of either a septic tank or a leach pit . This can be done through use of drums lined with vapor permeable membranes put up below latrine seat on the roof area of such properties in congested settlements . These drums can be replaced after they are filled up ( like cooking gas cylnders) with an empty one and the filled one can be taken to a centralised FSTP or STP for treatment/ co treatment and recycling. The safe containment and ability to transport them safely to FSTP/STP for treatment will also provide sanitation workers freedom for any manual contact with Fecal Sludge in operations of waste mangement and endure their dignity and safety. The scale of the pilot proposed will depend upon the financial support under the award and administrative support from Nagar Panchayat Mohanlalganj. The current solution will reduce the water consumption in latrines, will ensure process enhancement of Safe Containment within existing septic tanks and leach pit toilets, and ensure safe transporation and integration with current FSTPs or STPs for safe treatement, recycle and resue of treated fecal sludge.

Initiative is good way to recycle the plastic waste can be promoted but using plastic products outdoor requires UV treatment which is challenging for preventing disintegration under sun rays.
This can be adopted by the ULB's run Kanha Gaushalas for making puja products from cattle dung and revenue can be generated.
A good initiative for the ULB's with large amount of flower waste.
